Last PTO meeting of the year and officer elections May 8

The final PTO meeting of the year will be on May 8 starting at 6:30pm in the Green III library.  We will be voting on the executive board for next year. PTO members must have attended a minimum of one other meeting during the current school year prior to the election meeting in order to vote in the election per the bylaws.
The nominating committee has submitted the following slate of officers:

President:  Carrie Berry
ESVP:  Meghan Miller and Krista Beck
MSVP:   Helen Walklett  and Damara Rice
HSVP:  Erin Locke and Amanda Fellows
Treasurer:  Heather Racca
Secretary:  Jennifer LaRue

About the candidates:
Discovery Canyon PTO President Nominee:
Carrie Berry
I am running for a second term as PTO President.  Most of the current board are also on the slate.  We have been an effective team and feel we can make even more of a difference next year.
Over the last eleven years, I have volunteered on many PTO committees and felt I had enough familiarity with the procedures to take on the job of President.  It is a time consuming commitment but it is rewarding to contribute to making DCC a stronger community.   Next year we will be able to take on even larger projects to support and encourage our staff and students.  Thank you for your vote.

Discovery Canyon PTO HS Vice President Nominees:
Erin Locke
Hello, I’m Erin Locke. I am running for DCC PTO HS CO-VP. My husband, Joe, and I have 3 children, grades 10th, 9th and 4th. We have been a part of the DCC family for 2 years now. We believe in our campus and cannot wait to build and support our DCC community even more.
Amanda Fellows
Amanda Fellows is currently one of the Middle School VPs for the PTO and would like to be one of the High School VPs for the 2018/2019 school year.  She has 3 children, 2 at DCC.  Her son will be a Freshman in High School in the coming school year, and her daughter will be in 2nd grade.  She also has a 4-year-old who can’t wait to follow in her sibling’s footsteps.  She was in the Air Force for 20 years and retired in 2016.  After retiring, she took a year off from work and she spent time volunteering in her kids’ class rooms and lending a hand for teacher appreciations, hearing and vision screening and other school events.  She believes strongly in being involved in supporting her kid’s school, teachers, PTO and the activities and events therein because this time period in a child’s life is the cornerstone of their growth and development.  As a parent, we are there for our children for life; Amanda’s passion is to be involved in the lives of her children in this critical academic environment.

Discovery Canyon PTO MS Vice President Nominees:
Damara Rice
Damara Rice is currently the PTO Thunder Store Manager & High School Co-Vice President at Discovery Canyon. She has been very involved with the PTO since her youngest child, Ali (currently 7th grade), transferred from TCA to DCC last year. Damara served as TCA’s PTO Vice President from 2014-2016, was their Sunshine Committee Chair (Staff Appreciation Event Planner) for 6 years & led many other school sponsored committees the 10 years her children attended (Camden now 9th grade & Denton 11th grade). Her time & efforts here at Discovery Canyon were recognized with the Middle School Volunteer of the Year award the last two years. Damara is passionate about creating a positive environment for the entire DCC Community & enjoys being a part of a PTO that gives so much back to our wonderful students, teachers & staff. She thanks you for considering her for next year’s Middle School Co-Vice President.
Helen Walklett
New to Colorado in 2016, Helen’s girls are just finishing up their second year at DCC in 7th and 10th grade. Prior to being fortunate enough to land here, Helen’s PTO experience was at elementary and middle school level over the pond in the UK. She’s had a fun year as one of the Middle School VPs for PTO, supporting and celebrating our teachers, staff and students throughout the school year. Helen’s been a part of the PTO teacher grant committee, is “second in command” at The Thunderstore and a participant in all PTO has been able to do to contribute to the DCC community. The last year has been such fun, she’d really like to do it all again next year, building on what she’s learned. Go thunder!

Discovery Canyon PTO ES Vice President Nominees:
Meghan Miller
Meghan Miller is currently one of the Elementary VPs for the PTO and would like to retain her role. She has 3 kiddos at the Elementary Level in Kindergarten, and Second and Third Grades. She has enjoyed building the elementary community, hosting Jump Night, Movie Night and Coffee Connections. She looks forward to continuing to develop the community at DCC.
Krista Beck
Krista Beck, we have 2 girls, I was born here in the springs, married (awesome fellow), and have too many animals.  Want to build a stronger community for our children thru family events, strong ties to our teachers and lots of fun/ laughter for our kids.  The little details matter to children.

Discovery Canyon PTO Treasurer Nominee:
Heather Racca
Heather Racca, I am a mom of 3. Oldest will be 2nd grade next year, middle is 4 and starting preschool and my youngest is 2. I have been apart of PTO going on 3 years now, although I used to work closely with them when I worked in the high school.

Discovery Canyon PTO Secretary Nominee:
Jennifer LaRue was the secretary for the 2017/2018 school year. She has two children at DCC Elementary. Louis will be in 2nd grade next year. Alec is starting kindergarten. Jennifer has a background in communications and marketing. She has worked for 20 years as a trial consultant and communications person. She and her husband, Brad, enjoy camping, eating and spending time with their kids. She enjoys napping given the opportunity.
